Chamber Campaign Ads Hitting House and Senate

The Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its newest fleet of campaign ads, going after or supporting candidates in 12 House and eight Senate races. The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the campaign, said it was a $10 million effort.

The ads attack Democratic candidates for supporting health care reform, higher taxes and more regulation, while praising mostly Republican candidates for supporting free enterprise and the Keystone XL pipeline. Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) is the lone Democrat getting love from the Chamber.

"We're engaging earlier and more aggressively than ever to educate constituents about which leaders recognize the role free enterprise plays in leading our economic recovery," Chamber president Thomas Donohue said in a statement.  "It comes down to a simple question: is big government or free enterprise the solution to our country's economic problems?"

In addition to ads, the Chamber's campaign features grassroots and online efforts. The Chamber is also releasing its scorecard tracking lawmakers' votes on key issues in 2011 next month.
